Judgment & Racism

How can the issue of racism in the world be solved? Instead of focusing on the larger world picture, why not look first at yourself? Are you as free from racism as you might think you are? It all starts with the habit of judging other people according to a standard to which we have been conditioned for a long time. Do you look at obese people the same as you do thin people? Do you judge people according to whether they seem beautiful or attractive or not? Do you tend to judge according to height, build, hairstyle, color, and any number of other factors? Often this is done completely unconsciously, but if you look for it you will probably find yourself playing this judgment game more often than you would like to admit.

Suppose you were able to look at every individual and think something like, “What a unique and interesting expression of God.” How would that change how you look at and relate to other people? When you look beyond the external covering you can truly see the spark of God within everyone and everything in existence. If you begin to relate to people on that basis, suddenly you will move beyond any hesitation of approaching people and will actually be giving them a great gift. If you can help them see the spark of God within it could completely transform their life. Soon there will be no more judgment, just awe and appreciation for the incredible variety of forms in which God has chosen to manifest on this planet.
